Mexico's Dirty War: A Reassessment

Reassesses Mexico’s dirty war, finding it was rooted in existing but limited violent practices from the 1940s-1950s. Those limits disappeared in the 1960s, and the state did not gain sufficient capacity to launch nationwide counterinsurgency tactics until the early 1970s.
