The period of alcohol prohibition in the United States (1920–1933) under the 18th Amendment. Prohibition had outsized effects on the US-Mexico border, driving vice tourism southward and fueling the growth of red-light districts in Mexican border towns like Mexicali, Tijuana, and Ciudad Juárez.
